Jandor bows out of Lagos Governorship race after Hamzat’s endorsement...
Former Lagos governorship candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has announced his withdrawal from the Lagos State gubernatorial race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
CBI News reports that Jandor, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 elections, defected to the APC in 2025 and had declared his intention to contest for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 poll.
The development comes barely 24 hours after Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, was presented to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by the Governance Advisory Council as the APC’s consensus candidate for the 2027 election.
Recall that Jandor had only recently picked the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, signalling his readiness to participate in the primaries.
In a post on his social media page, Jandor emphasised his commitment to party processes and internal democracy.
“In line with the official and current position of the party on direct primaries, I have taken the significant step of formally picking up my Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for the forthcoming elections,” he wrote.
“While I respect the decisions of some of our elders and party leaders endorsing aspirant of their choice, I am guided by the official position of the party on direct primaries… Should the party come up with the second option of nominating party candidates as enshrined in the Electoral Act 2026, I will align and respect the supremacy of the party.”
He stressed that his political decisions are rooted in respect for party authority and democratic principles.
“My decision to proceed on this path is therefore anchored in a clear understanding of the challenges before us… and an unshakable dedication to the common good,” he added.
