It's official — 50,000 new faces are set to join the Nigeria Police Force, and training is next!

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Thursday finally handed over 50,000 newly recruited constables to the Nigeria Police Force to kick-start their training.
According to cbinews.tv, the handover ceremony was led by Commissioner I of the PSC, retired Justice Paul Galumje.
In a statement by the Commission's spokesperson, Torty Kalu, Galumje said the whole recruitment was done in line with President Bola Tinubu's directive and all the necessary statutory provisions. He thanked the President for backing the process and formally presented the recruits — plus a flash drive containing their full list — to the Police authorities for training at designated police colleges and other approved institutions.
Receiving them on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who heads the Force Training and Development Department, gave the Commission a thumbs-up for what he called a very transparent exercise. He assured that training will commence simultaneously across the country as soon as funds are released.
“The training will commence nationwide as soon as funds are released,” he said.
Also speaking at the event, the Director of Police Service Department at the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Muhammad, described the process as credible and transparent, while the Secretary to the PSC, Onyemuche Nnamani, put the success down to solid teamwork among all stakeholders.
For context, President Tinubu had declared a nationwide security emergency on 26th November 2025 and ordered the recruitment of 50,000 new officers to tackle rising insecurity. The portal opened on 15th December 2025, was extended to 8th February 2026, and has now wrapped up — about seven months later.
Once trained, these new constables are expected to significantly boost police manpower across the country.
