Well, this is the one we've been waiting for. Hosts Morocco are set to face Cameroon this Wednesday evening at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium, and trust me, there’s a lot more to this than just a semi-final spot.

Let’s talk history, because these two have previous. The last time they met at WAFCON was way back in 2000, when Cameroon pulled off a stunning comeback to win 4-1 after Morocco had actually taken the lead. Ouch.
That stat matters even more when you look at Cameroon’s record against host nations. This will be their seventh time facing the hosts, and frankly, it’s been miserable viewing for the Indomitable Lionesses. They are yet to win in their last six such games, and they’ve only managed to score in one of them – a 1-1 draw against Ghana in 2018. That’s a tough burden to shake.
Cameroon will be desperate to finally get over the line. They are one of the giants of this tournament – 12 previous appearances and three-time runners-up in 2004, 2014 and 2016 – but they have never actually lifted the trophy. In fact, they share the unwanted record for most finals without winning alongside Ghana.
For Morocco, though, the story is completely different. It’s a fairy-tale resurgence. Before 2022, they’d only ever appeared at WAFCON twice, in 1998 and 2000. That’s a 22-year gap between appearances, the longest in the competition’s history.
Now? They are absolutely flying. Having edged South Africa 2-1 in the quarter-finals, the Atlas Lionesses are now chasing what would be a third WAFCON final in a row, having lost to South Africa in 2022 and Nigeria in 2024. They’ve won both of their previous semi-finals the hard way too – after extra time and penalties – so they know how to handle the pressure.
And there’s already something to celebrate. The team has officially qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2027, which will be only their second-ever appearance at the global showpiece.
