Blimey, that escalated fast, Israel's far-right security minister just called for the whole of Lebanon to go up in flames.
So here's what's happening, via cbinewstv.
On Friday, the IDF confirmed four of its soldiers had been killed in Lebanon. Within hours, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir dropped a statement that was anything but diplomatic.
His words, verbatim: “With all due respect to the Americans, Israel must make it clear to the entire world that the blood of our sons and the security of our citizens are not up for bargaining. All of Lebanon must burn.”
No softening, no caveats. Ben-Gvir, who has form for hardline talk, basically said Israel should ignore US pressure and go full throttle after the deaths.
It's the kind of comment that sets off alarm bells across the region, because it's not just about retaliation, it's about a whole country. And with tensions already through the roof on the Israel-Lebanon border, this is only going to pour petrol on it.
