The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Monday the arrest of a senior member of the Jamaa Islamiya group during an overnight, intelligence-driven operation in the Har Dov area.
According to a statement posted on IDF’s official 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle, the suspect was apprehended during a coordinated raid and transferred to Israel for further interrogation.
Weapons were also recovered at the site.
“APPREHENDED: A senior terrorist from the Jamaa Islamiya terrorist organization was apprehended overnight by IDF troops during a targeted intelligence-based operation in the Har Dov area. The terrorist was transferred for further questioning in Israel. Weapons were also located at the site,” the IDF said.
CBI News notes that Al-Jama’a al-Islamiyya is a Sunni faction affiliated with the broader Muslim Brotherhood network.
Its armed wing, the al-Fajr Forces, formed in the 1980s, has historically targeted Israel from Lebanon, including coordinated attacks with the Shiite Hezbollah during the 2023-2024 conflict.
The IDF alleged that Jamaa Islamiya has repeatedly launched attacks against Israel and civilians in the northern region since the outbreak of the ongoing conflict.
“Throughout the war, the Jamaa Islamiya terrorist organization advanced terror attacks against Israel and its civilians in the north,” the military added.
