Sweden Striker Returns After Lengthy Injury Layoff.
Alexander Isak has been named in the Liverpool squad for Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final first-leg at Paris Saint-Germain as the Sweden striker makes his return following a long injury absence.
Isak has made just 16 appearances for Liverpool since his record-breaking transfer from Newcastle last year, struggling with a series of fitness problems.
He was injured in December during a tackle by Micky van de Ven while scoring the opening goal in a 2-1 win against Tottenham, which required surgery for an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture.
After 15 weeks on the sidelines, the 26-year-old has returned to full training and will feature in the squad again. Liverpool confirmed that Isak was among the players who departed John Lennon Airport for Paris ahead of Wednesday night’s first-leg at Parc des Princes.
Isak trained with his teammates on Tuesday morning and his return could provide a major boost for Arne Slot’s struggling side.
Liverpool are under pressure following a 4-0 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City on Saturday. The Reds sit fifth in the Premier League, making the Champions League their best chance of silverware this season.
The club was eliminated by PSG on penalties in the last-16 of the Champions League in 2025.
