Iran vows revenge for the killing of security chief Ali Larijani...
Iran vowed a decisive response on Wednesday after Israel said it killed senior security official Ali Larijani in an air strike, as missile exchanges intensified across the region.
Iranian missiles struck areas near Tel Aviv, killing two people, while Gulf states intercepted drones and rockets targeting sites including U.S. bases. Tehran confirmed plans to hold funerals for Larijani and Basij commander Gholamreza Soleimani, both killed in Israeli strikes.
Iran’s army chief said the response would be “decisive and regrettable,” while the Revolutionary Guards warned further attacks would follow. Iran has also sought to pressure global markets, with tensions around the Strait of Hormuz pushing oil prices higher.
The United States said it struck Iranian missile sites near the Gulf using heavy ordnance to protect shipping routes, as President Donald Trump criticised allies for not supporting U.S. efforts in the waterway.
Israel signalled it would continue targeting Iranian leadership, while Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said sustained pressure could eventually enable political change in Iran.
The conflict has spread across the region, with strikes reported in Lebanon and heightened tensions in Gulf cities, raising fears of a broader Middle East war.
