Red carpet rolled out in Rawalpindi as Iran’s President touches down for high-stakes talks — his first trip abroad since US and Israeli strikes.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has just landed in Islamabad for a one-day state visit, according to cbinews.tv. It’s a big deal too — this is his first foreign trip since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran back on February 28.
His aircraft, “Minab 168”, touched down at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Air Base where he was given the full red-carpet treatment. Waiting to greet him was a heavyweight line-up from Pakistan’s leadership: President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi were also there to welcome him.
So, what’s on the agenda? Both sides are set to run through the full spread of bilateral relations. Think trade, energy, border security, and regional connectivity — and they’ll be looking at fresh ways to boost cooperation across the board.
Security was already ramped up across Islamabad ahead of Pezeshkian’s arrival. And while this is a one-day stop, it’s not his first rodeo in Pakistan as president. He was here last in August 2025.
