Tensions just took a sharp turn — Iran says it's putting the brakes on hitting Israel, but there's a big "unless" attached.
According to cbinews.tv, Iran’s military has called time on its operations against Israel — for now. But they’ve made it clear: if Israel keeps up strikes on Lebanon, things could get “harsher”.
Iran’s armed forces didn’t mince words. In a statement shared by the semi-official Fars news agency, the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said they’d already dished out a “painful response” to Israel. Why? They’re pointing to what they call “acts of mischief” by the “brutal Zionist regime” in southern Lebanon and the Dahieh area, backed by “criminal America”. They framed it as standing up for “the oppressed people of Lebanon”.
This all follows President Trump jumping in and telling both Israel and Iran to “immediately stop shooting”. That came after a fresh wave of attacks that nearly torpedoed attempts at a peace deal to end this economically brutal war.
So far, crickets from Israel officially. But an unnamed Israeli military source told Reuters they’re ready for “a range of options” in Iran — whether that takes several days or “as long as it takes”.
Meanwhile, Lebanon is bearing the brunt. Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam says Israel has hammered his country with nearly 3,500 air strikes since the US announced a ceasefire for Lebanon back on April 16. Between April 17 and June 7 alone, his office posted on X, there were 3,491 air strikes, 407 demolitions, and six “razing” operations that completely flattened villages in southern Lebanon.
Salam says Lebanon is trying to stick to the ceasefire, but the Iran-Israel flare-up is making things worse. More displacement, more strain. “We have reached maximum absorption capacity in Beirut, Sidon, and all other regions,” his office noted.
The numbers are staggering — more than one million people, a fifth of Lebanon’s population, have been displaced by Israel’s strikes and evacuation orders since the war kicked off on March 2.
