It’s been a busy evening for INEC’s result portal, with thousands of polling unit results from the Ekiti governorship election flooding in within minutes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has uploaded 2,048 results out of 2,445 polling units to its Result Viewing Portal as of 6:41pm on Saturday, cbinews.tv reports.
That works out to 83.7 percent of total results from the Ekiti State governorship election — a huge jump from just 35.5 percent recorded barely 30 minutes earlier at 6:12pm.
Fourteen candidates are battling it out in this off-cycle governorship poll. Incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is seeking a second term, with his current mandate due to expire in October.
He’s facing stiff competition from some familiar names. His main challengers include Oluwole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party, Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress, Oyebanji Olajuyin of the Labour Party, and Blessing Abegunde of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, according to cbinews.tv.
Others in the race are Samuel Akande of the AAC, Ayodeji Ojo of the ADP, Opeyemi Felegan of Accord, Joseph Anifowose of the APM, Bidemi Awogbemi of the APP, Olaniyi Ayodele of the PRP and Victor Adetunji of the ZLP.
Results are still coming in as collation continues across the state.
