Political activities are about to heat up in Rivers State as INEC officially fixes a date for the Rivers South-East Senatorial bye-election following the death of Senator Barinada Mpigi.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the Rivers South-East Senatorial bye-election will take place on 20 June 2026.
According to reports by cbinews.tv, the election is being organised to fill the vacant seat left behind after the passing of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented the district in the National Assembly.
INEC says preparations are already in motion to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process. The Commission also called on political parties, candidates and other stakeholders to strictly follow the laid-down electoral guidelines.
With the election date now confirmed, political activities across the Rivers South-East Senatorial District are expected to gather momentum in the coming weeks as parties begin mobilisation and campaigns ahead of the poll.
