The votes are in, the dust has settled, and INEC’s just handed out the golden tickets to power. Here’s who’s now officially in charge after Saturday’s by-elections.
Right, so INEC has officially presented Certificates of Return to the winners of those by-elections held on Saturday, 20 June 2026. The presentation covered new lawmakers from Rivers, Enugu, Nasarawa, Ondo and Kano states, according to cbinewstv.
Mrs May Agbamuche-Mbu, who was standing in for INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, handed over the certificates as the Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State. INEC shared the update via their X handle on Tuesday.
Her message to the winners was pretty straightforward. Congratulating them, she said: “The most important responsibility is to represent the people well.” She urged them to serve their constituents diligently.
She also mentioned that certificates would be presented separately to the winners in Kebbi State for the Zuru State Constituency election and in Ekiti State for the governorship election.
So, who actually won?
Well, the APC had quite the weekend. They clinched wins in Ondo, Nasarawa, Kano and Kebbi, really strengthening their grip in the legislature. That said, it wasn’t all smooth sailing, some of the contests were clouded by claims of electoral irregularities, violence and voter intimidation.
Here’s the rundown of winners from Saturday’s polls, per cbinews.tv:
Enugu North Senatorial District: Ikeje Asogwa (APC)
Zuru State Constituency, Kebbi: Rabiu Garba Aiki (APC)
Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency, Kano: Rabiu Shuaibu (APC)
Rivers South-East Senatorial District: Olaka Nwogu (PDP) – holding the fort for PDP
Ondo South Senatorial District: Dayo Faduyile (APC)
Nasarawa North Senatorial District: Danladi Envulu-anza (APC) with 45,362 votes
And in other news, Governor Biodun Oyebanji was re-elected in the Ekiti State governorship election. That’s a big one – he’s now the first governor to win back-to-back terms in Ekiti since 1999.
