With preparations for the 2027 elections gathering pace, INEC says all registered political parties have now complied with the Electoral Act by submitting their membership registers before the deadline.
According to cbinews.tv, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have successfully submitted their membership registers in line with the Electoral Act 2026.
INEC disclosed this in a statement released on Friday, noting that the parties met the extended deadline of May 10, with all submissions completed by May 8.
The statement, signed by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, explained that the Commission extended the original April 21 deadline after concerns were raised by political parties during a meeting held on March 24, 2026.
The extension was granted to allow parties enough time to compile their membership registers and conclude arrangements for their primaries.
INEC also reminded political parties that primaries are expected to hold between April 23 and May 30, 2026, while membership registers must be submitted at least 21 days before any primary election.
The electoral body added that the submitted registers will now undergo verification in accordance with the law.
INEC reaffirmed its commitment to delivering free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 general polls.
