INEC fixes February 20, March 6 for 2027 general elections...
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general election, fixing February 20 and March 6, 2027, for the polls.
The commission disclosed the dates on Friday, February 13, 2026, at a news conference in Abuja.
According to the schedule, Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2027.
Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will follow two weeks later on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
The Chairman of the commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, announced the timetable, saying INEC had concluded preparations for the release of the schedule despite pending legislative amendments.
INEC had earlier, on February 4, indicated that it had finalised the election timetable even though the amended Electoral Act is yet to be passed by the National Assembly.
The commission noted that preparations for the 2027 general elections would continue in line with its constitutional mandate, irrespective of ongoing legislative processes.
