The public is advised to ignore the falsehood and rely only on INEC’s official channels for authentic information.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has debunked claims that its Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, endorsed a partisan post on X (formerly Twitter).
In a press statement on Friday, INEC said the allegation is false and baseless. The Chairman does not own or operate any personal account on X and has never engaged in partisan commentary.
CBI News reports that the Commission described the viral post as a fabricated attempt to damage the Chairman’s neutrality and public trust in INEC ahead of key electoral preparations.
INEC also warned of cybercriminals using fake accounts in the Chairman’s name to defraud Nigerians. It said such accounts have been reported to security agencies in the past and vowed to track and prosecute those responsible under the Cybercrimes Act.
