Eid-el-Kabir isn’t just about celebration for INEC staff this year — it’s a call to double down on sacrifice, integrity and discipline ahead of Nigeria’s next big polls.
So, INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, has had a word for staff as Muslims across Nigeria mark Eid-el-Kabir — and he’s not mincing it.
In his 2026 Eid message released on Wednesday, Amupitan sent warm wishes to Muslim colleagues at the Commission, calling the festival a timely reminder of obedience, selflessness and devotion.
“As the Muslim Ummah celebrates this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, I extend my warmest felicitations to all our Muslim colleagues within the Commission,” he said, as reported by cbinews.tv.
But he didn’t stop at greetings. Amupitan tied the “timeless virtues of absolute obedience, selflessness, and supreme sacrifice” straight to the job of running elections. According to him, managing Nigeria’s democracy is a “high-stakes, around-the-clock duty” that often means long hours and time away from family and comfort zones.
The INEC boss drew a direct line between Prophet Abraham’s obedience and the Commission’s own mandate: “We too must remain resolutely compliant with the constitutional guardrails, the Electoral Act, and our administrative codes of conduct.”
Timing matters here. Amupitan noted the Commission is at a “vital operational turning point” after recent field engagements and readiness checks in Ekiti State. With critical off-cycle governorship polls coming up — and the 2027 General Election frameworks already being consolidated — he says the lessons of Eid must shape how INEC works.
“The lessons of Eid-el-Kabir must therefore serve as the bedrock of our current deployment strategies. Compliance, precision, and surgical execution are non-negotiable standards as we work to eliminate logistical friction and secure the absolute trust of the electorate,” he told staff, cbinews.tv reports.
He also reassured workers that their welfare is top priority: “Your welfare remains the cornerstone of my leadership agenda. We are working assiduously to ensure that your dedication on the field is met with the robust welfare packages, security protections, and institutional backing you richly deserve.”
His final nudge? Use the festive period to recommit to national service and protect the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
