In a powerful show of commitment, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he is prepared to put his own life on the line to secure the release of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area, sending a strong message that the government will not abandon the victims.
Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, has made an emotional pledge to do whatever it takes, even if it means risking his own life, to ensure the safe return of the pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso.
The governor made the remark on Tuesday when he received a group of peaceful protesters at his private residence in Ikolaba, Ibadan. The protest was led by activist and social commentator Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), who joined concerned citizens in calling for urgent action over the abduction.
Speaking to the protesters, Makinde expressed confidence in the security operations already underway, saying the current security strategy is capable of rescuing the victims while keeping casualties to a minimum.
He also revealed that intelligence reports available to the government indicate that no further lives have been lost among the abductees since the tragic killing of a Mathematics teacher during the incident.
However, the governor stressed that if the situation drags on, he would personally volunteer to join the rescue efforts despite the obvious dangers involved.
“I’m ready to make any sacrifice necessary,” Makinde said, while reiterating his position that negotiating with kidnappers is not the best course of action for the government.
The governor also praised the protesters for conducting themselves peacefully, noting that public advocacy and civic engagement often help push leaders and security agencies to act more swiftly and effectively.
Earlier, VeryDarkMan explained that the solidarity march was organised to support ongoing government efforts to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers and reunite them with their families as quickly as possible.
He further pledged to volunteer alongside other young Nigerians if needed, saying the fight against kidnapping and banditry requires collective action and commitment from all stakeholders.
The demonstration highlights growing public concern over insecurity and the determination of both government officials and citizens to bring the abductees home safely.
