Congresswoman mocks Trump’s impeachment push and denounces deportation threats as “idiotic.”
Minnesota congresswoman Ilhan Omar has slammed President Donald Trump and his Republican allies, accusing them of exposing America to global embarrassment with their “stupid” attacks.
CBI News reports that the clash erupted after Trump accused Omar, who is of Somali descent, of “telling us how to run our country” in a social media rant.
His comments came after a failed GOP effort to censure Omar over a retweet some critics claimed blamed conservative activist Charlie Kirk for his own assassination on September 10.
The censure resolution, introduced by Republican Rep. Nancy Mace, narrowly failed in a 214–213 vote.
“Somalia is consistently ranked among the world’s most corrupt countries… and Ilhan Omar tells us how to run America! What SCUM we have in our country, telling us what to do,” Trump wrote.
Appearing on The Weekend Prime, Omar fired back, calling Trump “always unhinged, always derailed, always creating chaos.”
She mocked his push for her impeachment, saying, “He’s supposed to be the president of the United States… [but] members of Congress can’t be impeached.”
Omar also condemned threats of deportation from Trump allies.
“When they’re saying they’re going to deport me knowing fully well that you cannot deport an American citizen, what that displays… is that our country is being led by idiots,” she said.
“I feel great sadness that these are the kinds of people representing us.”
