IGP Disu Seeks International Support to Deepen Nigeria Police Reforms

Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has called for stronger collaboration with international development partners and diplomatic missions to accelerate ongoing reforms aimed at transforming the Nigeria Police Force into a modern, accountable, and technology-driven institution.
According to cbinews.tv, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Tuesday hosted a high-level stakeholders’ dialogue with international development partners, diplomatic missions, and key institutional stakeholders at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja as part of efforts to drive comprehensive reforms within the Force.
The strategic engagement, organised in collaboration with the Police Reform Secretariat, attracted representatives from the United Nations Development Programme, UN Women, the British High Commission, as well as officials from the governments of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, alongside the*National Institute for Police Studies and other development organisations committed to strengthening policing reforms in Nigeria.
Speaking during the dialogue, Disu reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to building a modern, professional, intelligence-led, and accountable policing institution anchored on the rule of law, respect for human rights, and community partnership.
He noted that the reform agenda is focused on transforming the Force into a technology-driven and citizen-focused institution capable of responding effectively to emerging security challenges across the country.
In his remarks, Olu Ogunsakin, Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, outlined key pillars of the reform programme, including legal and policy reforms, election security management, leadership development, strategic stakeholder engagement, oversight systems, and community trust-building initiatives.
Ogunsakin stressed that sustained international partnerships remain critical to achieving lasting institutional capacity development and delivering sustainable policing reforms in Nigeria.
