Aregbesola dismisses claims of defection, says he deliberately joined ADC...
Former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed suggestions that he defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating instead that he deliberately joined the party as a new political platform.
CBI News recalls that the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced Aregbesola’s expulsion in January 2025 over alleged anti-party activities.
In a video shared on 𝕏 on Monday, February 23, Aregbesola clarified that his move was intentional and aimed at repositioning the country ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Osun State governor, who now serves as the National Secretary of the ADC, addressed supporters at a political gathering.
“For context, I did not defect to ADC,” he said.
“I joined ADC as a platform to lead Nigerians from the darkness it is now to a new light.”
Aregbesola explained that his decision followed what he described as unsuccessful efforts to reform the APC from within.
According to him, the party leadership chose to expel him rather than heed his warnings and advice.
“After a long effort to correct the madness in APC, which the current leadership of the political party refused to do, rather than listen to our word of caution and advice, they expelled me,” he said.
“They expelled me without due process. All those who were with me were also expelled.”
He added that the situation left him and his loyalists with only two options.
“Now we have just two options: to abandon politics or to remain in politics and have a new platform to pursue our objective and vision for our people and the nation.”
