Residents have continued to seek for urgent security intervention to safeguard lives, schools, and farmlands in the area.
Tension has gripped Akombo community in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State after suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly set ablaze a classroom block at L.G.E.A Primary School, Akombo, near Anyiin.
CBI News reports that the incident, which occurred on the night of April 8, 2026, reportedly left part of the school infrastructure severely damaged, while seed yams stored within the vicinity were also destroyed in the inferno.
Residents said the fire outbreak was accompanied by gunshots, forcing many people in the area to flee for safety amid fears of a possible wider attack.
Eyewitnesses noted that the destruction has further heightened anxiety in the agrarian community, where farmers have long expressed concerns over recurring insecurity and restricted access to their farmlands due to suspected attacks in nearby settlements.
The latest incident has deepened fears among locals about returning to their farms, especially as the farming season approaches, with many calling for an increased security presence to restore confidence and prevent further attacks.
Speaking on the development, the Media Coordinator of the AYBG, Comrade Hulega Keghter Kenneth, said the community was grateful that no life was lost despite the destruction.
“We thank God that no life was lost, but there is growing uncertainty about returning to our farms in the affected areas,” he said.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
