Imagine turning up for the first day of your title defence and your own pitch says "non." That's exactly what's happened to PSG.
Well, this is a bit awkward.
Paris Saint-Germain's big Ligue 1 opener against Rennes this Sunday has had to be relocated at the last minute - and it's all down to the French heatwave absolutely frying the Parc des Princes pitch.
According to cbinews.tv, the French football competitions committee confirmed late on Wednesday that the game will now be played in Rennes instead of Paris.
PSG released a statement saying the surface had deteriorated so badly "that the current conditions did not allow the match to be held under satisfactory circumstances, particularly with regard to the safety and physical well-being of the players."
Fair enough, you don't want your multi-million pound squad doing their ACLs on a dust bowl.
The club said the venue switch was made "in agreement" with Rennes and thanked them for "making the match possible". They also added: "Paris Saint-Germain fully understands the inconvenience caused by this change for its supporters and all those who had planned to attend this match at the Parc des Princes," and that "the club regrets this exceptional situation."
The good news? They've already "identified a solution for replacing the pitch at the Parc des Princes for the upcoming matches," in time for their next home game against Monaco on 4th September.
It’s not the start the reigning Ligue 1 and Champions League holders wanted, after kicking off the season with a win over Aston Villa last Wednesday in Austria for the UEFA Super Cup.
One to watch - and hopefully one played on actual grass.
