Griezmann is Atlético's all-time leading scorer..
France World Cup-winning forward Antoine Griezmann is in discussions with Major League Soccer side Orlando City SC, reports AFP.
Griezmann, who plays for Atlético Madrid, is the Spanish club’s all-time leading scorer and has netted 44 goals for France.
The 34-year-old’s potential move to the United States has long been rumoured. The Frenchman has previously expressed admiration for American sports leagues including the NBA and NFL.
A source close to the player confirmed to AFP on Tuesday that “talks had taken place” between the two parties but that “nothing has yet been agreed.”
A transfer would represent another boost for MLS, which has grown rapidly in recent years.
Orlando holds Griezmann’s “discovery rights” — an MLS mechanism granting a club priority to negotiate with a player — the source said, confirming a report by The Athletic.
Griezmann has scored 12 goals in 35 appearances this season.
The 2018 World Cup winner has struck 210 goals in total for the La Liga club, a tally achieved across two spells separated by a stint at Barcelona from 2019 to 2022. He extended his contract last year until June 2027.
Griezmann retired from international duty in 2024 after making 137 appearances for France.
The MLS season began on Saturday, with the primary transfer window open until late March before reopening mid-season in the summer.
Orlando failed to qualify for last season’s MLS playoffs but has previously attracted high-profile players, including former Ballon d’Or winner Kaka.
