Several residents killed as Gunmen attack Mbalom community...
Gunmen suspected to be armed herders launched an attack on the Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, Nigeria
The attack left several persons feared dead, while other residents fled for safety.
The attackers were said to have invaded the Jande (Agena) community in Mbalom district late on April 4, 2026, in what eyewitnesses described as a sudden and violent assault on the rural settlement.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants opened fire indiscriminately upon arrival, throwing the community into panic as residents fled into nearby bushes and surrounding villages in a desperate bid to escape the attack.
Although no official casualty figure has been confirmed, local sources say many people are feared dead, while search and rescue efforts, as well as attempts to account for missing persons, are still ongoing in the affected area.
As at the time of filing this report, the Nigeria Police Force had yet to confirm the number of casualties or provide full details of the incident, while the situation in the community remains tense, uncertain, and under close monitoring.
