Katsina State is tightening the screws on bandits — and this time, it means no fuel in jerrycans, no motorbikes in two LGAs, and PoS shops are getting shut down.
So, here’s what’s happening in Katsina, as reported by cbinews.tv. Governor Dikko Radda has just rolled out some pretty tough new rules to tackle the banditry and kidnapping issues plaguing the state.
The big moves? First off, selling, buying, moving or even storing petrol in jerrycans is now banned across the whole state, effective immediately. The thinking is that fuel in jerrycans has been finding its way to criminal groups hiding out in remote areas, so cutting that supply line could really hurt their operations.
But it gets more specific for Matazu and Musawa Local Government Areas. If you’re in those LGAs, PoS businesses and those little phone-charging kiosks have been ordered to close down. According to security assessments, those spots were being used by criminal networks to keep things running.
And one more: motorcycles are now completely banned in Matazu and Musawa too. Bandits and kidnappers tend to zip around on bikes, so this is meant to ground them and mess up their movement.
All of this came out of an emergency security meeting Governor Radda had with security agencies, traditional rulers and other stakeholders. His Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, shared the details with journalists on Tuesday.
Governor Radda made it clear that protecting people is his top priority. He’s asking residents to play ball — follow the new directives and pass any useful info to security agencies. And he wasn’t mincing words about enforcement either: anyone who breaks these rules won’t be treated lightly.
The Katsina State Government says it’s doing whatever is lawful and necessary to make communities safe again so normal life and business can carry on.
