Gawuna pledges to strengthen ADC in Kano amid ongoing political realignments ahead of 2027 elections...
Former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after dumping the All Progressives Congress (APC).
CBI News reports that Gawuna completed his registration in his ward in Nasarawa Local Government Area, where he was presented with his membership card in the presence of party leaders and supporters.
Notable figures at the event included former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, former deputy governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, and the party’s state chairman, Musa Ungogo.
After joining the party, Gawuna expressed appreciation to his supporters and pledged to strengthen the ADC’s presence in Kano State.
His defection comes amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several politicians switching parties and forming new alliances.
Gawuna had earlier resigned from the APC in a letter dated March 29, 2026, describing his exit as a personal decision.
He also thanked the party for the opportunity to serve during his time as a member.
Before joining the ADC, he stepped down as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, with his resignation taking effect on March 31, 2026.
His resignation followed a directive by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, requiring political appointees seeking elective positions to step down in line with the Electoral Act.
Gawuna also appreciated the President for the confidence reposed in him, noting that he had served in several roles, including as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Bayero University Kano.
