ADC says Kwankwaso’s experience and grassroots influence will strengthen its coalition...
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has welcomed the defection of former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, describing him as a “game-changer” whose entry signals a growing coalition ahead of future elections.
CBI News reports that in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said Kwankwaso’s decision reflects a rising belief among Nigerians that the country needs a new political direction.
“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) warmly welcomes the decision of former Governor of Kano State and Presidential Candidate of the NNPP in the 2023 General Election, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to join our party at this important moment in our country’s journey,” the statement read.
The party noted that Kwankwaso has urged his supporters nationwide to register with the ADC, a move that has already led to a surge in registrations on its online platform within 24 hours.
“This reflects a growing recognition that Nigeria needs a new direction, and that the time has come for leaders and citizens alike to come together around a credible alternative that puts people first,” it added.
ADC highlighted Kwankwaso’s political experience and grassroots influence as key assets to the party’s growing coalition.
“Senator Kwankwaso’s decision speaks to what many Nigerians already feel, that the country needs leadership that understands the challenges people face every day and is ready to take responsibility for fixing them,” the statement said.
The party added that his ability to mobilise support and connect with the grassroots would strengthen efforts to rebuild the country.
Kwankwaso’s defection event was attended by top party figures, including National Chairman David Mark, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, and other members of the National Working Committee.
Also present were leading presidential aspirants such as Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, alongside notable figures including Liyel Imoke, Emeka Ihedioha, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
The ADC said the growing number of new members joining the party reflects increasing public support for its vision.
“In the last 24 hours alone, the ADC’s online registration platform has seen a significant surge in new members. This is a clear sign that more Nigerians are beginning to align with a different path forward,” the statement noted.
The party urged Nigerians seeking change to join its platform, stressing that collective action is key to building a better country.
“The ADC is not just a political party. It is a shared commitment to building a country where people can live with dignity, find opportunity, and trust that the system will work for them. Change does not happen by chance. It happens when people come together with purpose.”
