Galatasaray leaves Osimhen out of squad for Tuesday’s tie against Alanyaspor...
Galatasaray S.K. have omitted Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from their squad for Tuesday’s Turkish Cup encounter against Alanyaspor.
The Group A leaders have already secured qualification in the Ziraat Turkish Cup and are aiming to complete a perfect four wins from four matches.
However, with a demanding run of fixtures, the Turkish champions have opted for caution.
In a brief statement, the club confirmed that Osimhen and several senior players have been granted “active rest.”
CBI News reports that the decision comes just days after the forward starred against Alanyaspor in the league, scoring and providing an assist in a 3-1 Süper Lig victory.
He has played a pivotal role in Galatasaray’s push on multiple fronts this season.
The Istanbul giants are currently embroiled in a tight Süper Lig title race as they chase a fourth consecutive crown.
They are also preparing for a challenging UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie against Liverpool F.C., having booked their place in the knockout stage with the elimination of Juventus F.C..
A congested schedule of six matches in 19 days has influenced the club’s rotation plans.
The run includes a crucial away derby against Beşiktaş J.K., with title rivals Fenerbahçe S.K. and Trabzonspor ready to capitalise on any slip.
Following the weekend victory, Osimhen urged composure within the squad as the campaign approaches a decisive phase.
“The Beşiktaş match is a critical one,” he told the club’s official website.
“We’re taking it one match at a time. Of course, it will be a big match. A very high-quality team awaits us, but we also have a very high-quality team. We’ll go there for three points. It won’t be easy.
"First the Beşiktaş match, then Liverpool, but let’s not forget we also have a cup match against the team we just played. There are many more matches ahead of us until the end of the season.”
