It’s a family twist in Rivers politics, and this time it’s the governor’s brother stepping into the ring.
Ambassador Blessing Fubara Senior, the brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has thrown his hat into the governorship race, cbinews.tv reports.
He’s contesting under the Nigerian Democratic Congress and says he will serve just one term if elected.
Speaking ahead of the party’s primary, Fubara described himself as a “ready, competent and energetic” candidate with one mission: bring back peace, stability and economic prosperity to Rivers State.
He didn’t mince his words about the state’s current condition. Fubara said Rivers has suffered economic decline and lost its dignity, and he’s calling for a political “uprising” to reclaim its standing. Right now, he says, the state is distressed and shortchanged.
If elected, he’s promising to restore peace and kickstart economic growth.
Fubara also doubled down on zoning. He insists the Rivers South East Senatorial District must complete its eight-year tenure, warning that changing the political rotation formula could set a “dangerous precedent”.
He’s urged his supporters across all 23 local government areas to turn out in force for the party’s primary election.
And in a direct appeal, he called on his “elder brother” in the race to step down and back what he called “the uprising of the people” to take back the state.
