Rivers governor dissolves cabinet after Tinubu ends rift with Wike...
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Thursday evening dissolved the State Executive Council.
CBI News reports that the development was announced on Thursday in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Onwuka Nzeshi.
All Commissioners and Special Advisers have been directed to immediately hand over to Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries.
According to the statement, the governor instructed members of the dissolved Executive Council to ensure a seamless transition by transferring official documents and responsibilities to career officers.
Governor Fubara also expressed appreciation to the outgoing members of the council for their service to the state.
He wished them well in their future endeavours, commending their contributions during their tenure in office.
The sweeping decision came days after Fubara’s meeting with President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Sunday.
The meeting took place against the backdrop of heightened political tension in Rivers State and a renewed impeachment move against the governor by members of the State House of Assembly.
Presidency sources had indicated that the intervention by President Tinubu was aimed at diffusing the crisis rocking the state’s executive and legislative arms.
