He was called to the Bar in 2012, but the courtroom had other plans for him...

In a chatty, honest moment on the Behind The Story podcast, Nigerian rap favourite Falz has finally explained why he hung up his wig and gown.

For those who don't know, Folarin Falana isn't just an entertainer. The 35-year-old actually studied Law at the University of Reading in the UK and went on to the Nigerian Law School in Abuja before being called to the Nigerian Bar in 2012. Yes, he's a proper lawyer!

But as he told the podcast, juggling both worlds became a lot.

Falz recalled that awkward courtroom moment that pretty much said it all. He announced his appearance in court one day, and the judge looked at him and asked, "Are you not the one doing something on the side?"

At the time, some lawyers knew him as the son of human rights legend Femi Falana, while others were already clocking him from his buzz in entertainment. He first blew up back in 2011 with Wahz Up Guy, after all.

He said that was the lightbulb moment. He realised that being famous could actually be a distraction in court.

"Imagine becoming even more famous and showing up in court. It could create distractions and make some clients feel I would be too occupied with music and other engagements. It would have been difficult because my face is already out there," he recounted.

Simply put, he couldn't be Falz the lawyer and Falz the Bahd Guy at the same time without one suffering.
