It is official. A French appeals court has ruled that Achraf Hakimi will stand trial over rape allegations from 2023, and the Moroccan footballer says he has “been waiting for this since day one”.
Moroccan football star Achraf Hakimi is heading to trial. A French appeals court confirmed on Friday that the Paris Saint-Germain defender will face a judge over an alleged rape from 2023, an accusation he firmly denies, cbinews.tv reports.
The case dates back to February 2023. That is when a woman, then aged 24, told police in the Val-de-Marne region, just southeast of Paris, that Hakimi had raped her.
Hakimi, PSG’s right-back and captain of the Moroccan national team, has denied any wrongdoing from the start. In fact, just hours after the Versailles Court of Appeal handed down its ruling, he posted on X: “I’ve been waiting for this trial since day one.”
We do not have a trial date yet. The case will be heard at the criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine department, but when proceedings kick off has not been announced.
Hakimi’s lawyer, Fanny Colin, told reporters the decision was not a surprise. “This confirmation was expected. Nothing here says that he is guilty of anything; he remains steadfast in his defence,” she said.
On the other side, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, said the court’s decision brought her client “relief and hope”.
So what is the allegation? According to a police source at the time, the woman said she met Hakimi on Instagram in January 2023. She then went to his home in a taxi the player had ordered for her. She alleges that Hakimi kissed her, touched her without consent, and then raped her. She told police she managed to push him away and text a friend, who came to collect her.
Speaking publicly for the first time in a Mediapart article published Thursday, the woman, using the pseudonym Jeanne, explained why she wants a trial. “I want to defend myself, to be heard,” she said. “I want to explain myself. I want people to believe me.”
The timing is notable. The ruling comes as Hakimi prepares for Morocco’s second match of the 2026 World Cup, which kicks off on Friday against Scotland.
