Community leaders have expressed deep concern over the timing and nature of the attack.
A major investigation is underway in North London after four ambulances belonging to a Jewish emergency medical service were destroyed in a suspected targeted attack.
CBI News reports that the incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, has left the local community in shock and decimated a vital portion of the area's volunteer-led medical response fleet.
Emergency services were dispatched to a secure parking facility following reports of multiple vehicle fires. London Fire Brigade crews arrived to find four specialized ambulances fully engulfed in flames.
While firefighters were able to prevent the blaze from spreading to nearby residential buildings, all four vehicles were declared a total loss.
Initial forensic assessments suggest the fires were started deliberately. In addition to the structural damage to the vehicles, thousands of pounds worth of life-saving equipment—including defibrillators, oxygen supplies, and specialized trauma kits—were incinerated.
The Metropolitan Police have cordoned off the area and are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding streets. Given the specific nature of the target, detectives from the Community Safety Unit are leading the inquiry to determine if the attack was a motivated hate crime.
"To disable vehicles that exist solely to provide life-saving care to the public is an act of extreme malice," said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police. "We are pursuing all lines of inquiry to identify those responsible for this calculated act of destruction."
"These ambulances serve everyone in the community, regardless of background," one local representative stated. "This isn't just an attack on a Jewish organization; it’s an attack on the safety of the entire neighborhood."
