Former Ukrainian parliamentary speaker Andriy Parubiy has been killed in the western city of Lviv, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced on Saturday.
CBI News reports that Zelenskiy said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko and Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko had briefed him on the initial circumstances of what he described as a “horrific murder.” He added that a search for the killer was underway.
Parubiy, who once served as chairman of Ukraine’s parliament and played a prominent role in national politics, was a key figure during Ukraine’s post-2014 transition. No further details surrounding his death have yet been released.
