Adelabu quits minister role to pursue Oyo governorship ticket...
Former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, says he resigned from his position to focus on his ambition of becoming Governor of Oyo State.
Adelabu disclosed this while speaking in Ibadan, Oyo State, shortly after being welcomed by his supporters.
Less than 24 hours after stepping down as Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu touched down at Ibadan International Airport to a sea of supporters.
Vuvuzelas blared. Songs filled the air. The crowd’s energy turned his arrival into a homecoming rally.
Adelabu later told journalists at his Jericho campaign office in Ibadan that he had “gone, come, and conquered” — and was now set to serve Oyo, the Pace Setter State.
Adelabu is expected to contend with other aspirants of the All Progressives Congress for the party’s ticket ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.
He also dismissed reports suggesting that the Olubadan of Ibadanland and President Bola Tinubu have a preferred candidate, describing such claims as untrue and unfounded.
As political activities gradually gather momentum in Oyo State ahead of 2027, Adelabu’s early declaration and high-profile return signal what could be an intense contest for the governorship ticket within the APC.
