Iranian Labour News Agency reported that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was killed in a joint Israeli–US strike in Tehran.
Former Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has reportedly been killed in a joint Israeli–United States airstrike, according to Iran’s semi-official Iranian Labour News Agency.
The report, published on Sunday, stated that the strike targeted Ahmadinejad’s residence in the Narmak district of northeast Tehran, killing him along with several members of his security detail.
International media suggested the airstrike likely occurred late Saturday.
However, independent confirmation was not immediately available as of the time of filing this report.
CBI News reports that the incident comes amid escalating hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel, following coordinated strikes on key Iranian targets.
Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013, a tenure characterised by heightened tensions with Western nations over Tehran’s nuclear programme.
Before his presidency, he held several strategic positions, including governor of Ardabil Province and mayor of Tehran.
After completing his two terms in office, Ahmadinejad was appointed by then-Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, to the Expediency Discernment Council a 48-member advisory body responsible for advising the Office of the Supreme Leader and resolving disputes within Iran’s governing institutions.
His reported death adds to the growing list of senior Iranian figures allegedly killed in the ongoing conflict, further intensifying uncertainty surrounding the country’s political direction.
