Barcelona are celebrating both silverware and stability as Hansi Flick commits his future to the club with a new contract extension following another La Liga title win over Real Madrid.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2028, following a successful season that saw the Catalan side clinch their 29th La Liga title.
Sunday’s victory over Real Madrid secured the championship with three games remaining, marking Flick’s second league title in just two seasons in charge. The 61-year-old German coach, who was already contracted for next season, has now extended his stay by one additional year, with an option for a further year.
“I’m really happy about this,” Flick said. “They have given me and my team the confidence to work one or two years more.”
Barcelona, who also won the Copa del Rey in Flick’s debut season, still have the opportunity to finish the campaign on 100 points.
“A lot of coaches would be happy if they get a contract of three, four or five years, but in Barca’s case it’s good to limit it. I really appreciate it a lot,” he added. “We go to 2028 and then we’ll see if everything is right, and, if so, we can decide on one more year. The club has the right, and I have the right—I think it’s a good deal.”
The announcement comes at a personal moment of grief for Flick, whose father passed away over the weekend. A minute’s silence was observed before Sunday’s match.
Flick took over from Xavi in the summer of 2024 after previously managing Bayern Munich, where he won multiple trophies including the Bundesliga, Champions League, and Club World Cup in 2020. He also went on to coach Germany after his Bayern stint.
