FIFA Crisis: CAF Insists on Vote For Infantino

As pressure mounts for Gianni Infantino to quit over his controversial World Cup sell-off plan, Africa's football boss says the decision should be left to voters, not protests.

According to a report by cbinews.tv, CAF President Patrice Motsepe is standing firm on process. He insists that the embattled FIFA President's future should only be decided at the ballot box.
This comes after the Football Association of Ireland became the latest federation to withdraw its support for Infantino, following the English FA and Welsh FA. The FAI said recent events have raised "significant concerns regarding governance, transparency and the lack of meaningful consultation."
Infantino is under serious fire for his aborted plan to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. In a joint letter this week, UEFA, CONCACAF and the AFC did not hold back, saying “trust is broken through deception, when an individual places himself above the collective that entrusted him with authority.” They are believed to want him to resign before the March re-election.
But Motsepe, who is also a FIFA vice-president, is having none of it.
Speaking to Sky News on Thursday, he said: “If anybody has got any problem against anybody, whether it’s Gianni, whether it is anybody else, follow the process, follow the FIFA process, simple as that.”
He added: “If you want to take him out, go for elections; let the 211 member associations decide. Do that, and the vote will express whether they’ve got confidence in him or not.”
Motsepe, who was in Salzburg for talks with UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin amid threats to boycott the World Cup and Club World Cup, said everyone deserves a fair hearing.
He also defended the process around the controversial proposals, claiming there was no breach of rules as they would have eventually gone to FIFA members for final approval. He admitted, though, that “there’s a lot that’s problematic and negative that they have to fix.”
For now, CAF is still backing Infantino, but the calls for his head are only getting louder.
