FIFA introduce halftime show at 2026 World Cup final...
FIFA has announced plans to introduce a halftime show at the 2026 World Cup final, marking the first time such entertainment will be included in the tournament’s history.
CBI News reports that FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, confirmed the development, describing it as a major addition to football’s biggest global event.
Infantino disclosed that the halftime performance will feature multiple international artists, with the lineup to be curated by Coldplay’s lead singer Chris Martin and the band’s manager, Phil Harvey.
The move reflects FIFA’s effort to merge sports with global entertainment on an unprecedented scale.
The 2026 World Cup final is scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium, which will be temporarily renamed New York-New Jersey Stadium for the tournament.
The competition will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The halftime show, being organised in partnership with Global Citizen, is expected to stand out as one of the major highlights of the tournament.
Infantino described the initiative as “a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.”
In addition to the final, FIFA is planning a large-scale “takeover” of Times Square during the closing weekend of the competition.
The event is expected to feature fan engagements, live performances, and global broadcasts aimed at expanding the overall World Cup experience.
While the official list of performers has not yet been announced, Nigerian artistes are widely expected to be part of the show, given the growing global influence of Afrobeats.
The genre’s international rise was recently highlighted by Tems, who performed at the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final halftime show alongside J Balvin and Doja Cat in a globally broadcast performance that marked a significant moment for African music on the world stage.
