Tired of jumping from one government website to another just to get one simple thing done? The Federal Government says that stress is about to end.

In a major push for digital transformation, the Federal Government has unveiled a brand new Government Service Portal, a one-stop digital gateway where Nigerians and businesses can access all government services in one place.

The platform had its soft launch in Abuja on Tuesday, courtesy of Galaxy Backbone in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

And according to those behind it, this is a game-changer.

Speaking at the launch, the Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, said the portal was created to solve that all-too-familiar frustration of navigating countless websites and physical offices.

He called it “the beginning of a unified digital gateway through which citizens and businesses can easily discover, access and consume services offered by Government institutions from a single location.”

His words: “Government should be organised around the needs of the people, not around institutional boundaries.”

Prof. Adeyanju admitted that while many Ministries, Departments and Agencies have gone digital on their own, the experience is still fragmented for the average user. This new portal, he explained, brings everything together under one trusted roof to make access simpler, faster and more consistent.

He added that the initiative is fully aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is a key pillar of Nigeria’s Digital Public Infrastructure, working hand-in-hand with national identity, payment and data exchange systems.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Nadungu Gagare, represented by Mr Johnson Bareyei, described the portal as a flagship project under the e-Government Master Plan 2.0. He noted it will come with a secure single sign-on, so you won’t have to keep submitting the same information to different agencies.

KOICA Nigeria also hailed the launch as a milestone. Its Country Director, Mr Eunsub Kim, represented by Ki-Hyun Baik, said it is the flagship achievement of the “Building a Foundation Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project and a culmination of years of partnership between Nigeria and South Korea.

So, does it actually work?

According to Olumbe Akinkugbe, Executive Director at Galaxy Backbone, user testing was carried out across all six geopolitical zones and the FCT with 184 participants. The feedback was impressive: over 80% found it user-friendly, 88% could easily locate services, 91% said they would use it again, and a whopping 99% said they would recommend it.

He added that issues around sign-up, image capture and OTP delays spotted during testing have already been fixed, with more MDAs set to be onboarded in the next phase.

For now, it’s a soft launch to allow for more integration and feedback before a full national rollout. But if it delivers on its promise, this could finally be the end of endless queues and portal-hopping.
