Need a midweek break? The Federal Government has just handed Nigerians one — Tuesday is now a public holiday to celebrate Eid ul Mawlid.
Here is the gist:
So, if you have been wondering whether there will be a holiday for Eid ul Mawlid, the answer is yes. The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 25 August 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.
The announcement was made on behalf of the government by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released on Friday by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr Magdalene Ajani.
In his message, the minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and in the diaspora and said the celebration is a good moment for all of us to pause and reflect.
According to cbinews.tv, Tunji-Ojo said: “Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others. These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them.”
He also urged Nigerians to use the day to pray for peace and unity, and to celebrate with restraint and mutual respect. He wished the Muslim community a joyous and peaceful Eid and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
So, plan your travels, family time and celebrations accordingly. Tuesday is officially off.
