Good news for Nigerian students studying overseas under the government scholarship scheme — the Federal Government has finally started releasing the long-awaited 2025 allowances.
According to cbinews.tv, the Federal Government has commenced the payment of withheld allowances owed to Nigerian students abroad under the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) programme.
The update was made public in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education on 19 May 2026.
The ministry revealed that the Central Bank of Nigeria has already transferred the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and foreign missions for distribution to students in partner countries.
Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, explained that the released funds cover half of the outstanding allowances approved for 2025. He also assured beneficiaries that plans are already in motion to settle the remaining balance.
According to the ministry, the money has successfully reached the accounts of the affected embassies, and students are expected to begin receiving payments through the various diplomatic missions.
The statement further reassured beneficiaries that the government remains committed to supporting Nigerian students pursuing their studies abroad under official scholarship schemes.
“No Nigerian student pursuing academic excellence under government scholarship schemes will be left unsupported,” the ministry stated.
