Got a hotel or event centre in Abuja? The FCTA just put you on notice — rent to the wrong political group and you could lose your property.
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) isn’t messing around this political season. They’ve told hotel and event centre owners in Abuja to only do business with political party leaders officially recognised by INEC — no exceptions, reports cbinews.tv.
According to a statement released Friday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and social media to the FCT Minister, the warning is pretty blunt: let an “illegal organisation” use your venue for a gathering, and you risk having your property title revoked.
“For instance, in this political season, owners of event centres and hotels in particular must ensure that they only deal with INEC-recognised leadership of political parties in respect of the use of their facilities,” Olayinka said.
The FCTA says land in the FCT is strictly for lawful activities, and they’ll now be keeping a close eye on hotels, event centres, and other public buildings. The goal? To stop any gatherings that could stir up trouble and threaten peace in the capital.
So, what should venue owners do? The administration wants them to double-check the legality of any group trying to book their space and keep proper records of every transaction. Miss a step, and the sanctions could be severe — including losing your title documents.
Bottom line: if you run a venue in Abuja, verify first, rent later. The FCTA is watching.
