FBI Offers $10,000 for Fugitive Nigerian Fraud Suspect

The FBI is seeking Nigerian wanted in Illinois for bank fraud, identity theft, and credit card fraud dating back to 2001.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran, a 56-year-old Nigerian wanted in the United States for a string of financial crimes dating back over two decades.

According to a statement published on the FBI’s website on Wednesday, Adediran faces multiple charges including bank fraud, identity document fraud, and credit card fraud in connection with a series of alleged offences in the state of Illinois as far back as 2001.

CBI News reports that investigators say Adediran, who is known to use several aliases including Kevin Olumide Adediran, Eric O. Williams, Maxo Alexandre, Olumide Adkins, and Edward N. Anderson, allegedly attempted to cash fraudulent checks and used stolen identities of U.S. citizens to open bank and credit accounts.

“Olumide Adebiyi Adediran is wanted for violation of conditions of release,” the FBI statement read.

“In August of 2001, Adediran allegedly entered a bank in Champaign, Illinois, and attempted to retrieve funds from a deposited fraudulent check. He also allegedly used stolen information of United States citizens to open bank and charge accounts.”

Authorities revealed that Adediran fled the Central District of Illinois in December 2001, just days before his federal trial was scheduled to begin.

On January 2, 2002, a U.S. District Court in Urbana, Illinois issued a federal arrest warrant after he was charged with violating the conditions of his release.

The FBI described the fugitive as 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing around 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.

He is believed to have ties to South Florida, but his current whereabouts remain unknown.

CBI News also reports that the agency urged the public to assist in locating him, offering a reward of up to $10,000 for credible information.

“The FBI is offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Olumide Adebiyi Adediran,” the agency stated, appealing for tips through its offices in the U.S. or the nearest American embassy or consulate.

Adediran has been on the FBI’s wanted list for over 20 years, making him one of the longest-running Nigerian fugitives sought by U.S. authorities.
