Family announces funeral rites for Nanyah in Lagos, Enugu State, and Abuja...
The family of late singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, has released details of her funeral arrangements following her tragic death on January 31, 2026, after a fatal snakebite at her residence in Abuja.
Nanyah was reportedly rushed to the hospital after the incident but sadly did not survive.
Her sudden passing has triggered widespread grief across Nigeria’s music community, with fans, colleagues, and friends paying tribute to her talent and personality.
Her brother, Kingsley Nwangene, confirmed the funeral plans in a post shared on his Instagram page, @official_kaybaba1, where he uploaded her obituary along with the emotional message, “Till I see you again.”
According to a statement released by the family, a service of songs will take place on February 10 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Abule Oshun, Dansa, Lagos, beginning at 4 p.m. This will be followed by a requiem mass at 6 p.m. at the same venue.
The family further announced that “Ifunanya will be laid to rest in her hometown in Enugu State on February 14, 2026, while a thanksgiving service to celebrate her life and legacy has been scheduled for February 15.”
In honour of her contributions to music, the Abuja Metropolitan Music Society Choir organised a tribute concert titled “Tribute and Songs” at the Congress Hall of Transcorp Hilton, Abuja.
CBI News reports that the event celebrated Nanyah’s impact on the capital’s music scene, particularly within classical and contemporary circles.
Members of the choir also disclosed that her remains have already been transported to Enugu State, where her father resides.
They described her death as a profound loss to Abuja’s growing music community.
