Atiku accuses Tinubu’s administration of backing actions within ADC to destabilize it...
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of sponsoring certain actions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to destabilize the party.
Speaking in an interview with DW Hausa, Atiku claimed that ADC factional chairman, Nafiu Bala, now travels with heavy security convoys and resources resembling those of a state governor.
CBI News reports that he suggested that this sudden lifestyle change points to external backing.
According to Atiku, the ruling party is unsettled by the growing popularity of the ADC, noting that Nigerians continue to join the party in large numbers despite internal disputes.
“So far, people from all states are still joining the party. Nothing has happened to suggest that Nigerians are withdrawing their support. Not at all,” he said, adding that external interests perceive the party’s growth as a threat and have begun intervening.
Atiku questioned Bala’s security, vehicles, and residence, asserting that such provisions are unusual for someone in Bala’s position and likely indicate outside influence.
He also noted that Bala has not returned to his hometown since the onset of the crisis.
Despite challenges, Atiku emphasised that the ADC remains undeterred by the recent decision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to derecognise the party’s leadership.
He highlighted the opposition’s continued momentum and growing participation from youths and women.
Atiku stated: “Youth are dominating the party now. Whoever you see planning to contest, from councillor to state assembly, national assembly and governor, they are all youth. We already said our party is for youth and women; we want to win and give it to them.”
