Former Nigerian Senator dumps ruling APC, cites betrayal and division.
Former Senator Kabiru Marafa has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of betrayal and deep internal divisions, particularly in Zamfara State.
CBI News reports that the former lawmaker made the announcement in a video message delivered in Hausa, where he addressed his supporters across the state and beyond.
Marafa said after two days of consultations with his supporters, it became clear that the APC had failed its members in Zamfara and across Nigeria.
“APC as a party has betrayed and cheated us in Zamfara State and Nigeria,” he declared.
The ex-senator identified the factional struggle between Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State and former Zamfara Governor and current Defence Minister Bello Matawalle as the main reason for the party’s crisis in Zamfara.
According to him, since Buni assumed leadership of the party from Matawalle, no meeting has been convened to resolve the division.
“The party has been divided into two parts: one part for Bala Buni and the other for Matawalle. This is two years and six months now. We asked them to resolve their differences, and nothing has been done,” he lamented.
Marafa said he would continue consultations with his supporters before announcing his next political platform.
“Because of these, I have decided to quit the APC, and I will continue my consultation to see if, in no distant time, I will announce my new party,” he stated.
