It was supposed to be a normal school run on Wednesday morning. By 7:30am, it had turned into a nightmare.
So, here’s what we know so far, according to cbinews.tv. The sister of ex-Minister of Power and APC 2027 governorship hopeful Bayo Adelabu has been kidnapped in Ibadan, along with her twin boys.
An eyewitness told PUNCH Online it happened Wednesday in the Challenge area of Ibadan Southwest Local Government. The victim is 43-year-old Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul. She was abducted by gunmen around 7:30am while driving her 12-year-old twins, Peter and Paul, to school. The attackers took all three of them.
Adelabu’s media aide, Femi Awogboro, confirmed it in a statement. He described Mrs John-Paul as the youngest of five children born to Mrs Olufunmilayo Aduke Adegoke Adelabu. She’s not just “the ex-minister’s sister” though — she had a solid career herself. She worked at both the Central Bank of Nigeria and First Bank Pension Custodian before taking voluntary retirement last year. After that, she moved to Ibadan with her kids and was preparing to join her husband, Mr John Paul, who’s already in the United States.
The family says they’ve alerted all the relevant security agencies. Good news is, operatives are already on it. Preliminary investigations have started, and efforts are ongoing to rescue Mrs John-Paul and her sons, and to catch those behind it.
Understandably, Adelabu and the whole family are shaken. But the statement said they’re “hopeful and confident” security agencies can bring her and the boys home safely.
They’re also asking the public for a few things: stay calm, don’t spread rumours, and please don’t share unverified info that could mess up the rescue operation. If you’ve got anything useful, pass it to the proper authorities. And if you’re the praying type, they’d appreciate your prayers right now.
The family promised to keep cooperating with security and will share updates as things develop.
This isn’t an isolated case for Oyo State. cbinews.tv notes that just last month, on Friday 15 May 2026, over 40 teachers and students were kidnapped in a coordinated attack at Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire LGA. And back in December 2025, APC chieftain Wale Oriade was seized by armed men at his office in Ibadan. Eyewitnesses said the attackers came in a blue Micra and snatched him around 7:06pm.
For now, the police aren’t saying much. When Crime Reporters Oyo platform reached out, Oyo PPRO Olayinka Ayanlade texted back: “I cannot independently verify this for now, but please hold on.”
We’ll keep an eye on this and update you as soon as we hear more from cbinews.tv or security sources.
