A trip to bury a loved one ended in heartbreak for Professor David Salifu’s family, as gunmen cut short the life of Benue’s former SSG.
Sad news coming out of Benue State. Professor David Salifu, who once served as Secretary to the Benue State Government, has died after being shot by gunmen in Katsina-Ala LGA.
From what we’re hearing, Prof. Salifu was on his way from Wukari to Makurdi on Thursday. He was going to attend his uncle’s burial. But things took a terrible turn along the Wukari–Joota Road when he and his driver were ambushed.
According to Ben Ekah, a former aide to the late professor, the gunmen tried to kidnap him. When that didn’t work, they shot him at close range in the stomach before fleeing.
What happened next:
His driver rushed him to a hospital in Wukari where doctors removed bullets from his stomach.
He was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Makurdi for further treatment.
Sadly, he passed away around midnight on Thursday.
Prof. Salifu was a respected academic and public servant. He was a Professor of Public Administration and former Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Federal University Wukari. He served as SSG under former Governor Gabriel Suswam between January 2011 and May 2015.
At of time of this report, the Benue State Police Command has not yet made a public statement on the attack.
Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
