Eid prayers turned political this week as Turkey's president didn't hold back on Netanyahu — and he's calling on Muslims worldwide to respond.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan used Eid al-Adha to take a direct swipe at Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, branding him a “tyrant” during remarks after prayers, cbinews.tv reports.
Speaking to reporters outside Istanbul’s Camlica Mosque, Erdogan didn’t mince his words: “I also believe that the tyrant known as Netanyahu will learn the necessary lesson at the hands of the world’s Muslims.”
It comes as Erdogan doubles down on diplomacy too. He had a phone call with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday, where they discussed Turkiye-Iran ties and the wider regional picture. Erdogan made clear Turkiye will keep “providing every kind of support” to help ceasefire negotiations land a “favourable outcome”.
